About Native SpringsCultural Subsistence Dietary ProgramThe dietary program focuses on providing cultural subsistence dietary intake for elders, disabled persons, less fortunate, and those who wish to partake of indigenous foods as part of a cultural exchange. The program also serves as a hunter/gatherer learning program for youth who are trained by veteran hunter/gatherers. By partnering with veteran hunter/gatherers we ensure the success of this program based on contributions of salmon, elk, deer, acorns, wild berries, roots, and other indigenous foods. The program also promotes and ensures cultural preservation though training Native youth how, where, when, and why to gather cultural foods and the importance of these foods. Additionally, both gatherers and program beneficiaries shall learn of the environmental impacts on the various food supplies and what we are doing and what they can do to limit the impact on the environment, the food supplies, and cultural gathering sites. |
